How to create a vignette in 5 easy steps!
June Article: 5 steps to creating the perfect vignette!
One of the easiest ways to add a designer zing to your home
is by arranging objects into groupings on walls, atop tables, and shelves to
give it that polished presentation. As summer approaches, there are so many fun
options for décor. Switching out items and re arranging them is my favorite way
to freshen up my home when I'm getting bored of my current decor or for seasonal decorating.
Whether it’s a large scale vignette on a furniture piece or
a small vignette on a nightstand, follow these easy steps to up your designers
touch.
1. 1. Choose your space, light source, and design:
Make sure you take into consideration the scale of your space. For vignettes on
furniture pieces and walls, items may need to be much larger than ones on
nightstands. Choose items that support the design theme of your home and place
them in a well-lit space.
2. 2. Work from back to front, and top to bottom:
Start with a tall item such as a lamp or vase and vary the height, size and
shapes of your items. Create depth to your vignette by bringing in a mirror, a
decorative tray, art, or picture to ground the back of the décor.
3. 3. Work on odd numbers: We are tough to work
in odd numbers for vignettes. However, I always find myself using 4 items….5
always seems too crowded and 3 may not be enough. Also, take into considering
what you are styling, if it’s an entry table you may care more about symmetry
for an overall look than a cluster of objects.
4. 4. Add color: Color will help add depth and
make your design pop! My go-to accessory items are second hand books, buy hard
covers and take the plastic covers off, and purchase by spine color. Books will
also help add height where you need it.
5.
Admire and Edit: Try to remove at least 1
item when editing your styled space.
Whether your vignette is on a wall, table
top, nightstand or the ever so popular built in book case…spend time on the
details and have some fun!
