Creating our 2015 Parade Home Master Bathroom

When we created the master bathroom for the 2015 American Heritage Homes Parade of Homes it all started with the floor.

We were completely undecided on what type of flooring to go with: hardwood tile, tile etc. When we got to Carpets Plus Design Center we starting by picking the flooring for the home which was hardwood. I remembered back to my initial consult with the client when we went through her Pinterest page, she had posted a lot of pictures of herringbone hardwood which she originally wanted but the labor was extremely expensive for this option in the main areas of the house. In the corner I spotted this amazing tile that came in a pattern already so we could keep the labor costs down, the client loved it but thought it would be out of budget, so we simply asked and it was extremely close to our budget so this was the clear choice. Our selection was called Parquet white pine from Carpets Plus.

From there we designed the shower which was the easy part since the homeowner knew she wanted a traditional subway tile. For an accent tile we wanted something with color and ended up going with a Versailles series tile also from Carpets Plus in the color Foggy Meadow. We went with a Mobe Pearl Grout. As for shape we simply had them install what I call a wall panel which is a tall rectangle of the accent tile which can also be placed where the shower trim is as well. Make sure your installer also orders the appropriate edging and trim tile pieces.

For the shower floor we wanted something that wouldn't show the dirt but wanted to stick with the cool colors, an easy 2X2 mosaic was the clear choice in color Verona Silver and we did a darker Silver Bullet grout to help hide the dirt.

The shower was finished off with Contempra chrome body sprays from Ferguson Plumbing and voila:

We went with a frameless glass surround to keep the clean modern look.

We maintained the same custom which cabinetry as we did in the kitchen from Custom Finish Cabinets but added feet to the cabinets so we would get more of that furniture look. The granite tops are Cashmere Crème from Next Generation Granite with a flat polish modern edge. The custom mirrors are done by A H Installs.

We finished the bathroom off with chrome sconces custom installed in the mirrors from the Quorum line at Wilkinson's House of Lighting

Add a little bit of finishing touches in décor:

All in all this is one of my favorite bathrooms we have done. The calming cape cod feel is the perfect theme for this master suite!

  1. This is very beautiful and interesting. I never thought of any of these ideas when remodeling our master bedroom the first time. Now 10 years later here we are remodeling it again. Thank you for making this blog post and giving me ideas for remodeling our master bedroom this time. It is definitely important to get something for the shower that doesn't show the dirt.

  2. This is exquisite. Your theme colors exude elegance while maintaining subtlety. I love that you were looking for cost effective materials that were not labor-intensive. Granite tops boost the resale value of a house and its inclusion was a plus. Although hardwood floors are my go to kind of floor, your tiles equally impressed me. Your client will be ecstatic.
